A relaxed car ride starts with the right preparation. Your dog should always be securely restrained while driving – for example with a carrier box or a special safety harness.
For longer distances, plan regular breaks so your four-legged friend can move around, drink and relieve themselves.
What you need:
Basic equipment includes fresh water, a bowl, treats or food, poop bags, a blanket or favorite cushion, as well as a small first aid kit.
Special caution is needed on warm days: never leave your dog alone in a parked car, as the interior can heat up to life-threatening temperatures within a short time.
TRAVELING BY TRAIN
Traveling with a dog by train is a comfortable and eco-friendly way to start your vacation together. Check the transport conditions of the relevant railway company before departure. On many trains, larger dogs must be on a leash or wear a muzzle, while small dogs can often travel for free in a suitable carrier bag.
What you need:
For a relaxed train ride, you should bring water, a foldable bowl, poop bags and a blanket or mat. Plan the most direct connections where possible and give your dog enough exercise before the trip so the journey is stress-free for both of you.
TRAVELING BY PLANE
Anyone wanting to fly on vacation with their four-legged friend should plan traveling with a dog by plane well in advance. The conditions for bringing a dog vary by airline and depend, among other things, on the size, weight and breed of the dog. Smaller dogs can often travel in the cabin in an approved carrier bag, while larger dogs are usually transported in the cargo hold. Also find out in good time about the entry requirements of your destination, as a valid EU pet passport, current vaccinations and, depending on the country, further documents are often required.
What you need:
Get your dog used to the carrier box/bag a few weeks before the trip and bring water as well as familiar items to make the flight as pleasant as possible. This way, flying with your dog becomes a well-prepared and safe journey.

On longer car rides, you should take a break approximately every 2 to 3 hours. This allows your dog to move around, drink and relieve themselves. Plan around 15 to 20 minutes for each break. On warm days, more frequent stops are advisable. Fresh water should always be within reach while traveling.
For small dogs, a sturdy dog carrier bag is suitable, such as Weda or Benno, which offers enough space and transports your dog safely and comfortably during the ride. Good ventilation, sturdy materials and a soft cushion are important. For longer trips, the bag should offer enough freedom of movement and be easy to clean.
